Hola! I am currently living in Costa Rica with my family. We’ve been living here as missionaries for a year now. Our second child, Tabitha, was born in Costa Rica via homebirth and we will become permanent residents in June 2009. So exciting!

Before we moved to Costa Rica, we lived in Des Moines area. I started on the road of natural living, healthy wholesome food and natural birth while I was pregnant with my first child, Naomi, in Mexico (we were missionaries there for two years). We moved back to Iowa before Naomi was born and found Dana Ericson (midwife) through a couple friends. We were blessed with a wonderful natural birth and healthy baby. A few months later, I found Teresa who heads the local Weston A. Price group called NOAH (Nourishing Organic Affectionate Homes) and learned so much from this amazing group of people.

I was stoked that Sarah asked me to be a guest blogger for NLDSM (Thanks Sarah!). I have so much to share and it is my passion to help people understand that living naturally is the way to go. Even though I am not in DSM area anymore… I am excited to share about our adventures of live naturally and organically in a foreign country. I have learned a lot of new things from the locals on natural medicine, frugal living and food that can be applied in the states. You can live naturally almost anywhere you are.

A little more about myself… I am a wife of one awesome hubby, Jon, and a mommy of two precious girls, Naomi and Tabitha. I am the daughter of Jehovah Jireh, a missionary in Costa Rica and deaf.  I am a total foodie and love trying new things.  I love horses and it is our vision to open a ranch to rescue horses and work with youth (Jon’s gift). We are currently looking for land to lease or buy.

Well, that’s me!  I am looking forward to sharing my experiences in natural/organic living.  Thanks, again, to Sarah.

I was very excited when Sarah Reid invited me to be a guest blogger on NLDM!  I’m hoping to share my knowledge and experiences in Des Moines Local Food Movement as well as my venture into Urban Homesteading.  There is still a long road ahead for me, but I’m looking forward to learning more, step by step.

A little bit about me.  By day I’m a graphic/web designer.  I’m of Latino descent and a local foodie!  I’ve been organic gardening for five years. Huge advocate of our Local Food Movement.  Buy fresh/buy directly from the farmer!  In this year, I’ve been learning more and more about Urban Homesteading.  I’ve purchased my first chickens and am excited on sharing my experiences on Urban Chicken Farming.  Daughter of the Great I AM, a mom (love all things Natural Birth), a wife to a great skateboarder named Gabe and a skater at heart 🙂  Whew… Is that it??

I’m looking forward to being a guest author on NLDM!  Thanks Sarah!

Diana Bauman is a Local Spanish foodie. You can view her personal blog at: A Little Bit of Spain In Iowa.

Hello there! My name is Sabbath Davis, and NLDM asked me to be a guest blogger, a role I was only to happy to fill! A few things about me –

1) I am a DM transplant. My husband is from Iowa, but we met in Denver and then lived in Seattle (with a short time living here as well). We just moved back here this last year (in August), to be closer to family and to raise our family in a more laid back place.

2) I am a doula, a childbirth educator, a placenta encapsulation specialist, and very shortly a student midwife.

3) I am a Legislative Liason for the Friends of Iowa Midwives, a group working towards legalization of Certified Professional Midwives in our fine state.

4) I am an avid knitter and spinner. I love all things fibery and wooly!

5) I love to garden! I am working on creating an Urban Sustainable Living setup in my yard, with rotating systems that work well together. So my backyard chickens can help fertilize my garden beds, the tilapia in the rain barrels (work in progress right now) will be able to feed us and add great plant food to the water that will nourish my plants….ect.

6) Cooking and baking are the joys of my life. I love to create wonderful meals for my family, when time allows of course 😉 I am working on making a more rotational system for this as well.

And that’s me in a nutshell! I hope to blog regarding birth and issues surrounding it, gardening, sustainable systems, and fiber crafts. I also have my own blog, started when I was 5 months pregnant and still going fairly strong 3 years later. Thanks DM! I can’t wait to *talk* more with you!
